Sad, happy, sorry or proud. People have different motives for giving gifts. Some people give because naturally they are loving and caring. They usually forget about giving you a gift, and they don't mention it to anyone.
Other people give because they've seen that you need that stuff. They will do anything to provide you with what you need because it makes them happy to see you smile.
Another set of people will give you a gift to make themselves look good. They believe you are nothing without them and will make you suffer. They tell everyone about what they've done to you and keep reminding you of their gesture.
Some people give and take them back. These are a really funny set of people. Have you ever had a gift taken back?
The last set of people give and expect something in return indirectly. They believe in payback and will ask you a favour based on the gift you've received.
